On December 14th, South Korea‘s "Jingxiang News" reported that as global investment in artificial intelligence (AI) continues to expand, South Korea is expected to directly benefit from semiconductor and display equipment next year. As a "direct beneficiary" of AI development, the semiconductor industry is expected to see a year-on-year increase of 9.1% in exports, driven by companies such as Microsoft and Amazon accelerating the construction of AI infrastructure, reaching approximately 265 trillion Korean won; Due to the increasing demand for high-efficiency OLED panels, exports of display devices are expected to grow by 3.9%. The battery industry is expected to see a 2.9% increase in exports due to the rising demand for electricity from AI data centers and the expansion of electric vehicle deployment.
Biology, automotive, and shipbuilding industries are also highly regarded. The biotechnology industry enhances its growth potential through CDMO capacity expansion and technology licensing; The automotive industry is expected to see a slight increase in production and exports due to the launch of new electric vehicle factories; The shipbuilding industry is expected to see an 8.6% increase in exports supported by orders for LNG ships and container ships; The steel and machinery industries will also decline against the backdrop of rising protectionism, while the construction industry will continue to be under pressure due to high interest rates and tightening financing. The industry believes that in the context of the continuous improvement of China‘s manufacturing competitiveness, South Korea needs to promote enterprise innovation with AI as the core, and cooperate with more breakthrough regulatory reforms and incentive policies.
